Memories of Coney Island
Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at 05:12PM In today's NY Times, it was announced that the Bloomberg Administration has purchased seven acres of land in Coney Island for $95.6 million dollars. They bought it from the same developer that bought Albee Square Mall vowing to renovate it and sold it, instead for a huge profit.
I'm somewhat appalled at the amout of money spent, partly because we don't pay teachers properly, but glad that the landmark will be restored at some point in my lifetime.
I grew up sneaking going to Coney Island.

I remember being at the Brooklyn Day celebration one Sunday in June with the Georgia Peach, Cousin Shorty, and Auntie Em. Bored with the festivities, all of a sudden we had this great idea: Let's go to Coney Island.
So we hopped the D train and rode out.
Part of the fun, was that we knew we weren't supposed to be there. The other part was that there would be guys out there - for Auntie Em, anyway. She was a flirt. And the other part, was the Cyclone. Roller coasters were our thing. Anyway, Georgia Peach and I decide we were going to ride the Cyclone.

Not just once...or twice. That would have been normal.
On the third time, we got off the ride exhilarated, Thelma Evans hair blown upward and looking like we'd escaped an overzealous Mariah Carey video fan. I checked all hundred of my white overall shorts pockets. Oh no! (@ the choice to wear overralls and what's to come...lol. I cah-rack myself up.)
I lost my Sally Jessy Raphael's! Mine were blue/black tortoise, though. I loved 'em!
But I was sick to my stomach! What would I tell my mother?
Five minutes after I lost them, we got into something else. I think the gravity ride that pinned us to the wall. The worry was gone because we were having fun. It wasn't just that one time. It was every time we went there.
I don't even remember what nonsense I told my mom. I just know I was grounded for a day or so, that the Coney Island was STILL the bomb, and that I couldn't wait to go again.
Today - wearing contact lenses, by the way - I can't wait to see the glamourization of what used to be a cheap thrill.
I just hope I can afford the admission price.

I can still the clicketty clack sound that the Cyclone made as it would ascend the track. That and the delicious smell of a Nathan's hot dog and fries/wedge. Those were the days! I'd love to see how the renovation turns out.
Thank you for this article.

WOW Gold
Tera Gold
Runescape Gold were our thing. Anyway, Georgia Peach and I decide we were going to ride the Cyclone.
The advantage of collecting the cloth Runescape Money is the fact that it could be a valuable commodity to sell in the auction house for a high price Cheap Eden Gold. The other approach would be to slaughter or follow non humanoid Cheap WOW Gold as it could be leathery. This is also known as a product of reward that you can sell on the auction house Tera Items. Regardless of the technique to be pursued, just know that it will take time to build your Tera Gold these ways.
